Happy Would Be 44th Birthday, Layne.

"When everyone goes home, you're stuck with yourself."

It's insane to think about someone so great, wasting away. Just the thought of his body decomposing for two weeks before it was found because it wasn't uncommon for no one to hear from him for long periods of time, makes me feel a deep kind of sadness if I focus on it too much. His voice was truly beautiful and cannot be imitated.

Sideshow Attraction!

You know, I've always wanted to see a real sideshow attraction, but I don't think they exist anymore so this was the best I could do. It's a virtual sideshow. ;)

Remember Donovan?

Sunshine Superman

Sunshine came softly through my a-window today
Could've tripped out easy a-but I've a-changed my ways
It'll take time, I know it but in a while
You're gonna be mine, I know it, we'll do it in style
'Cause I made my mind up you're going to be mine

I'll tell you right now
Any trick in the book now, baby, all that I can find
Superman or Green Lantern ain't got a-nothin' on me
I can make like a turtle and dive for your pearls in the sea, yeah!
A you can just sit there a-thinking on your velvet throne
'bout all the rainbows a-you can a-have for your own
'Cause I made my mind up you're going to be mine

I'll tell you right now
Any trick in the book now, baby, all that I can find
Everybody's hustlin' just to have a little scene
When I say we'll be cool I think that you know what I mean
We stood on a beach at sunset, do you remember when?
I know a beach where, baby, a-it never ends
When you've made your mind up forever to be mine

Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm
I'll pick up your hand and slowly blow your little mind
'Cause I made my mind up you're going to be mine
I'll tell you right now
Any trick in the book now, baby, all that I can find

Superman or Green Lantern ain't got a-nothin' on me
I can make like a turtle and dive for your pearls in the sea, yeah!
A you-you-you can just sit there a-thinking on your velvet throne
'bout all the rainbows a-you can a-have for your own
When you've made your mind up forever to be mine
I'll pick up your hand and slowly blow your little mind
When you've made your mind up forever to be mine

I'll pick up your hand
I'll pick up your hand
And slowly blow your little mind
(Fading)Blow Your Little Mind

Don't remember Donovan? Eh, well, he might have been before your time. This is such a sweet little tune.

Epistle To Dippy

Look on yonder misty mountain
See the young monk meditating rhododendron forest
Over dusty years, I ask you
What's it been like being you ?
Through all levels you've been changing
Getting a little bit better no doubt,
The doctor bit was so far out.
Looking through crystal spectacles,
I can see I had your fun.
Doing us paperback reader
Made the teacher suspicious about insanity,
Fingers always touching girl.
Through all levels you've been changing
Getting a little bit better no doubt,
The doctor bit was so far out.
Looking through all kinds of windows
I can see I had your fun.
Looking through all kinds of windows
I can see I had your fun.
Looking through crystal spectacles
I can see I had your fun.
Looking through crystal spectacles
I can see I had your fun.
Rebelling against society,
Such a tiny speculating whether to be a hip or
Skip along quite merrily.
Through all levels you've been changing
Elevator in the brain hotel
Broken down a-just as well-a
Looking through crystal spectacles,
Ah, I can see I had your fun.
Dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum dum
Dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum dum
Dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum dum
Dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum dum
Dum dum dum, dum dum dum dum dum

Codine

An' my belly is craving, I got shakin' in my head
I feel like I'm dyin' an' I wish I were dead
If I lived till tomorrow it's gonna be a long time
For I'll reel and I'll fall and rise on codine
An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time
When I was a young man I learned not to care
Wild whiskey, confronted I often did swear
My mother and father said whiskey is a curse
But the fate of their baby is many times worse
An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time
You'll forget your woman, you'll forget about man
Try it just once, an' you'll try it again
It's sometimes you wonder and it's sometimes you think
That I'm a-living my life with abandon to drink
An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time
Stay away from the cities, stay away from the towns
Stay away from the men pushin' the codine around
Stay away from the stores where the remedy is found
I will live a few days as a slave to codine
An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time
An' my belly is craving, I've got a shakin' in my head
An' I've started heating whether my body said
Steady yourself with the grains of cocaine
An' you'll end dead or you'll end up insane
An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time
An' my belly is craving, I got shaking in my head
I feel like I'm dyin' an' I wish I were dead
If I lived till tomorrow it's gonna be a long time
For I'll reel and I'll fall and rise on codine
An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time
An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time
Tangerine Eyes
Please darling Tangerine Eyes sing a song for me,
One that I can hear all the day.
Oh and please darling Tangerine Eyes kiss my hand at dawn
By the bright and yellow corn of your hair.
Like a picture of the golden sunset you can make it real,
You know just how I feel all the time.
So please darling Tangerine Eyes whisper to the wind
We'll leave the rain behind and walk away.
We walk along the lonesome shoreline listening to the sea,
Talking to you and me about the sky
And we know even as we walk that way before the dawn
Our footsteps will be gone far away.
The seagulls ride the winds for you, can't you hear them cry,
Can't you hear them sigh out your name?
Oh please darling Tangerine Eyes sing a song for me
One that I can hear
So I feel alright
In the big start studded night of my dreams.

Jackson Browne- Cocaine

Cocaine

You take Sally and I'll take Sue
Their ain't no difference between the two
Cocaine, running all 'round my brain

Headin' down Scott, turnin' up Main
Looking for that girl that sells cocaine
Cocaine, runnin' all 'round my brain

Late last night about a quarter past four
Ladanyi come knockin' down my hotel room door
Where's the cocaine--
It's runnin' all 'round my brain

I was talking to my doctor down at the hospital
He said, "Son, it says here you're twenty-seven,
But that's impossible
Cocaine-- you look like you could be forty-five"

Now I'm losing touch with reality and I'm almost out of blow
It's such a fine line-- I hate to see it go
Cocaine, runnin' all 'round my brain

This song just sounds so damn pretty and it brings on a couple giggles too.  There are some lyrics missing, but I couldn't find a complete version of them anywhere and I did not feel like finishing them myself. ;)

Great News!

Well, I have stretched ears and I'm looking to get them sewn shut, they were stretched to 1", but I've left my plugs out for nearly seven months now and they've shrunk down a very great deal. My reasoning for not wanting my stretched ears that I've loved so much since I was fourteen years old, is that not only has it become a huge "trend" now and lost it's true meaning, my ears were not healthy ones. I stretched them too fast without allowing for reasonable healing time and so on, well, as much as I miss them so much, I've called around a few places in my area and found that for $775 I can have them sewn shut by a plastic surgeon. Now, I've always been one of those people who lets there body heal itself and isn't into modern medicine, so this is sort of a big thing for me to go and have a minor surgery, I mean, I don't even take pain killers for headaches, but I'll be glad when my ears are "normal" again. At the same time, though, I'll be a bit sadened because I really did love my stretched ears.

I Have A Love For Grave Art

My most favorite types of grave art are the "old school" kinds. The greatest place in New Hampshire, that I know of, to see some of that would be in Portsmouth. The two best cemeteries there for beautiful art are:

"North Cemetery - est. 1753Located on Maplewood Avenue
Established in 1753 on land purchased from John Hart and is the second oldest burying ground in the city. Many historically significant people for the state of New Hampshire and the Revolutionary War rest here including General William Whipple (a friend of George Washington and General during the Revolutionary War), Hall Jackson, Prince Whipple, and Governor John Langdon."

"Point of Graves - est. 1671Established in 1671 on land deeded to the town by Capt. John Pickering. Located on Mechanic Street next to the Prescott Park planting beds and overlooking the Piscataqua River. No gravestones survivied previous to 1682 because Capt. Pickering's cattle was allowed to continue grazing among the gravestones after the burying ground was established."

Along with the older artwork, I also enjoy the more new types of grave art as well. These are a few lovely ones from a cemetery in Jaffery NH.

Vic Rattlehead Stained Glass Dish

I fucking love Megadeth and even though Vic wasn't really a good choice for a stained glass piece as he's not very colorful, I still think it came out lookin' goooood.

Stained Glass Peacock Mirror

I made it using simulated liquid leading and transparent paints, but because I used a mirror, it doesn't have a stained glass look to it.

Seagull On A Rock

Took this picture sometime during the summer of  2010 in Rye.

Wood Carving Is Fucking Cool, Man!

I would love nothing more than to master the arts of wood carving by hand and I plan to do so, eventually. The wood carving tools can be a bit expensive, but I plan to give it a go sometime soon. I think wooden hand carved sculptures are just fucking gorgeous, I perfer them left naturual and sometimes stained, rather than painted, though.

This is very helpful, it shows how to make different basic cuts.

This is pretty fucking cool, it's simple for beginners.

                     How To Carve A Woodspirit
                                    I love the all-in-one tool he's using.

I cannot wait to give wood carving a shot. I mean, it's a really badass form of art and the history behind it is nothing short of interesting.

Want to know about the history of wood carving?
Check it out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_wood_carving

Here's a set of wood carving hand tools.

Here's a "relief" carving. Now, apparently older faces are easier to carve than the younger looking faces, but honestly, I think the deep lines and wrinkles are beautiful when it comes to wood carvings.

There'll Always Be A Special Place In My Heart For The Easy-Bake Oven

The original 1963 Easy-Bake Oven made by Kenner Products.

I would kill to be able to find one of these with all the original parts and what-not, but I'm willing to bet that would cost a pretty penny.

70's Model of the Easy-Bake Oven

Being a 90's baby like I am, this is the version of the Easy-Bake Oven that I had hours of fun with until I needed more packets of mix. Yes, it's not nearly as cool as the more vintage ones because it was re-modeled to look like a microwave, yet- they didn't feel the need to change the name, I guess they figured the kids of America were more used to seeing the microwave being used, even then.

I'm very sad to say, this is what they're passing off as an Easy-Bake Oven now-a-days. If you look really closely, you'll see the digital clock sticker says "12:31" instead of "12:30" like they did when I was young. Gasp- and no more 100-watt lightbulb either, how could they do such a terrible thing?

Wanna know a little fun fact?

"In February 2007, Hasbro and the Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled 985,000 Easy-Bake toy ovens after finding that children's hands and fingers can get caught in the oven's opening, thereby posing serious risk of burns. Since the recall, there were at least 249 reports of children getting their hands or fingers caught in the ovens, including 16 reports of second- and third-degree burns, and one report of a 5 year old girl having to get her finger amputated."

Ronald B. Howes was the inventor of the Easy-Bake Oven, he passed away at age 86, February of 2010.

"Howes came up with the idea for the Easy-Bake Oven when he noticed that street vendors kept their food hot by using heat-lamps."

The man was a genius. More about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Howes

Can't Get This Song Off My Mind.

Mad Season- Wake Up

Wake up young man, it's time to wake up
Your love affair has got to go
For 10 long years, for 10 long years
The leaves to rake up
Slow suicide's no way to go, oh
Blue, clouded grey
You're not a crack up
Dizzy and weakened by the haze
Moving onward
So an infection not a phase
Yeah, oh

The cracks and lines from where you gave up
They make an easy man to read, oh
For all the times you let them bleed you
For little peace from God you plead, and beg
For little peace from God you plead
Ahhaahh, Yeah, Ahhaahh, Yeah, Ahhaahh, Yeah

Wake up young man, wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up
Oh, yeah

Wake up young man, it's time to wake up
Your love affair has got to go, yeah
For 10 long years, for 10 long years,
The leaves to rake up
Slow suicide's no way to go, oh
Slow suicide's no way to go
Wake up, wake up, wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up

The song is really beautiful in an eery way. Makes you feel so sad, but yet, so free at the same time, like everything is fucking shitty, but you're just above it all.

Film mogul Darryl F. Zanuck of 20th Century Fox said in 1946:

“Television won't be able to hold on to any market it captures after the first six months. People will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.”

Ahaha, I guess that was sort of wishful thinking, huh?

"1946 10" RCA Model 630TS - Initial selling price was $352.00.  It weighed 95 lbs., and was on the market from 1946 until 1949.  Many other manufacturers bought the 630 chassis, and had their own cabinets made.  Even in 1950, the set was offered in kit form and a hobbyist could build a do-it-yourself TV set.  Approximately 43,000 were sold the first year and hundreds-of-thousands continued to be sold in later years.    Collectors call this the Model-T of television, and it is the first set completely designed and marketed post war."

I would love to own an old television set, they're so very cute.

Pink Floyd- Time

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to nought
Or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desparation is the English way
The time is gone
The song is over
Thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

This song is about feeling like you've got all the time in the world, but when you finally realize time can easily pass you by, it's too little too late.
